Mawimbi is situated on the riverbank of the beautiful Kafue River in the Kafue National Park in west Zambia, just 4 hours drive from Lusaka. We have three luxury large canvas tents all with a private en-suite bathroom. Each tent is fully mosquito proofed with a covered veranda overlooking the river for perfect game viewing and relaxing. Canoeing and Game walks are the main activities to enjoy as well as fishing, game drives, bird watching and of curse relaxing!
We have three luxury large canvas tents. Each has its own en-suite bathroom consisting of, ecological “green” toilet and a wash hand basin and a bucket shower that is supplied with hot water on demand. All of the rooms are mosquito proofed, with two beds in the main area of the tent with a covered entrance verandah overlooking the river for perfect game viewing and relaxing. The tent is tastefully furnished with all basic necessities and decorated in subtle African themes.
By Road From Lusaka head westwards on M9 road in direction of Mongu and Kafue National park. It takes approximately 4-5hrs, on a good tar road, to reach the main entrance of the Kafue National Park called Chunga Point. From there, proceed southwards for another 45min to Mawimbi Bush Camp on the Park’s main gravel road until you see the sign for Mawimbi Bush Camp. Turn left onto a narrow bush track driving for another 2km until you reach the bush camp. By Air From Johannesburg International airport (South Africa) it takes two hours to reach Lusaka International airport. Kafue National Park is approximately 45min flying from Lusaka by a 4 seats chartered aircraft. Landing strip is called Chunga Wildlife Headquarters (coordinates S15009’51,6” E25057’38”). From there clients are transferred by a safari vehicle to Mawimbi Bush Camp. Alternatively, clients can opt to canoe from Chunga Wildlife Headquarters to the Mawimbi Bush Camp that would take approximately 5hrs (including picnic lunch), whilst their luggage will be transferred by a vehicle.
Facts & Facilities
· Each of the three tents sleeps two adults only. · Families can be accommodated in one tent upon request. · No children under 12 allowed except in specially arranged circumstances. Please consult us at the time of booking. · Camp is open April to mid-November, depending on the commencement of the rain season in November. · Professional guide will be escorting clients on all of the canoeing trips. · Local professional guides will be escorting clients on walking safaris in cases where the professional guide is undertaking canoeing trips. · All meals, teas, coffees and drinks are served from the main dining room tent. · Fresh, drinking water is available in the tents and dining area. · No internet and cell phone coverage available. · Satellite phones in use for all emergency situations. Private use charged as per standard rates. · Comprehensive medical insurance, including evacuation recommended for all clients undertaking trips in Southern Africa. · The entire camp is running on solar and paraffin lights. · Check in for all clients no later than 11.30AM and check out by 10.00AM.
The Kafue River is perfect for canoeing, the main activity offered. Wilderness game walks and drives in the Kafue National Park are organized every morning and afternoons for those not braving the canoeing and are a must for all lovers of the African bush. Off course, there is an amazing bird life that awaits exploring as well as fishing from the riverbank.
